It all started with a single word: “Hey.”

Not in person, not in some movie-worthy meet-cute—but on a little app called Dil Mil. Who knew that one casual message would turn two strangers into late-night talkers, inside-joke makers, and, eventually, partners for life?

His Side:

Our late-night conversations had me completely hooked. I knew I had to fly to Calgary to see if she was just as charming in person as she was over the phone. We planned to meet up and play pool for our first date, but Dona mentioned she wanted to go to church beforehand. Me being me, I asked if I could tag along—and somehow, she said yes. So, there I was, standing outside the Cathedral downtown, early (of course), freezing, and rehearsing what I’d say when I finally saw her. Then Dona showed up—fashionably late, of course. My grand plan to open the door for her and shower her with compliments went right out the window as we rushed straight into Mass. During the service, she somehow avoided eye contact the entire time and kept inching down the pew. Don’t worry, I moved right along with her. After Mass, we finally got to talk, and I was instantly reminded why I’d come all this way. Dona was even more beautiful in person, and we spent the evening exploring downtown Calgary, grabbing pho, going to an arcade, and catching a movie. The next day went just as smoothly—well, smooth enough—and somewhere along the way, I earned an invite to lunch with her parents. I was already sold on Dona, but after tasting her mom’s cooking, I knew for sure I wanted to be part of this family forever.

Her Side:

Okay, first of all, I was only late to our first meet-up because I was coming off a night shift and desperately needed sleep. (And maybe there was a little traffic, too.) That’s the only reason I was late to Mass! And for the record, I was sliding away from Geordie on the pew purely to get a better view—nothing else! You have to give it to him though—he’s persistent. The next day, I might have shown up two hours late to our date…but I did not know exactly what time we were meeting. In hindsight, I was simply making sure he is really the one - you know? But honestly, from the very beginning, Geordie’s sense of humor, kindness, caring heart, and easygoing nature won me over. Somewhere between all the laughs, the teasing, and the food, I realized I couldn’t imagine a future without him. Looking back now, I’m so glad everything unfolded exactly the way it did.

From that first “Hey,” our story blossomed into countless laughs, adventures, and memories we’ll treasure forever. Along the way, we’ve learned that true love isn’t about perfection — it’s about patience, support, respect, and having someone by your side who can always make you smile

And now, surrounded by the family and friends who have cheered us on, we begin our greatest adventure yet. Thank you for being part of our story, for celebrating this moment with us, and for believing in the magic of love—because sometimes, all it takes is one “Hey.”
